De afgelopen jaren heeft Lowtech Magazine de sprong gemaakt van web naar papier. Er zijn vier volumes beschikbaar in het Engels, met in totaal 2,398 pagina’s and 709 afbeeldingen. In December 2022 lanceerden we het eerste Nederlandstalige volume in een soortgelijke reeks. Het betreft het derde deel, dat 18 artikelen bundelt die tussen 2018 en 2022 zijn gepubliceerd. Het boek telt 404 bladzijden en bevat 207 afbeeldingen in zwart-wit. Het is verkrijgbaar in onze Lulu bookshop.

Er is ook een Nederlandstalig boek verkrijgbaar over een specifiek thema. “Stralingsverwarming: gezonde warmte met minder energie”, uitgegeven bij Eburon in 2015.

Waarom een website op papier?

Als informatiemedium is het boek moeilijk te overtreffen. Ten eerste kunnen boeken worden gelezen zonder toegang tot een computer, het internet, of elektriciteit. Een boek leest ook prettiger dan een computerscherm en maakt concentratie makkelijker. Verder is papier ook nuttig om de inhoud van Lowtech Magazine op de lange termijn te bewaren. Tot slot financiert de verkoop van boeken nu grotendeels het schrijven van nieuwe artikels en het bouwen van prototypes. Er staat geen reclame meer op de website.

Low-tech Magazine: The Comments collects almost 3,000 comments on roughly 100 articles that we published between 2008 and 2021. The articles are in the three other books we have made so far. The book has 688 pages and no images. Find it in the Lulu bookstore.

Over the years, readers have often stated that the comments on the website are (at least) as interesting as the articles themselves. We agree. Low-tech Magazine would not have been even half what it is now without the comments. You can even take this literally, because the comments take more space than the articles. This is one of the thickest books we have published so far, despite the extra small font we use.
